FAQ

Please find answers to frequently asked questions below. If the answer to your question doesn't appear below, please contact Sadie directly using the contact form at the bottom of this page.

  • How do I book an appointment?
If you would like to book an appointment for your animal, please get in touch using the form at the bottom of this page or call Sadie on 07950 726823. Sadie will require authorisation from your vet before treating your pet. If your vet has recommended physiotherapy for your pet, please ask them to submit the online veterinary referral form, or complete the paper copy and return via email or post. If you feel your dog will benefit from physiotherapy but your vet has not been made aware, Sadie will contact your vet to ascertain if they consent to physiotherapy being carried out on a patient deemed under their care. Sadie will then contact you to arrange a suitable appointment time.
  • Why is a veterinary referral required?
In accordance with the Veterinary Surgeon's Act 1966 it is a legal requirement that any treatment carried out on an animal is done so under the direction of the Veterinary Surgeon. This means that your vet must evaluate your pet's suitability for physiotherapy and make a referral if deemed appropriate. You can certainly contact a physiotherapist to express an interest in having physiotherapy for your pet, but your Veterinary Surgeon must be aware of, and authorise any treatment for animals under their care.
  • Do I need a veterinary referral for ongoing sessions for the same condition?
If your vet has authorised ongoing physiotherapy sessions for the same condition then further referral will not be required provided there has not been a substantial gap between treatments. If your pet develops another condition that requires physiotherapy, a separate referral from your veterinary surgeon will be required.
  • What will happen at my first appointment?
During your first appointment, Sadie will obtain a thorough history from you, discuss the reason for referral and address any specific concerns you may have. Sadie will allow time for your pet to become acclimatised to her presence before attempting any hands-on treatment. Sadie will perform a static and dynamic assessment of your pet (standing still and moving) followed by hands-on palpation from head to toe. Sadie will then discuss details of her findings and explain the treatments she would recommend. Provided you are happy with the proposed treatment, Sadie will use a variety of therapeutic techniques to treat your pet and will often prescribe specific exercises or activity modifications to implement at home to improve your pet's condition. Sadie will discuss ongoing treatment for your pet and may recommend further follow-up appointments.
  • Will I receive any paperwork/notes after my appointment?
Sadie is required to keep comprehensive clinical notes regarding assessment and treatment of your pet. These will be sent to your veterinary surgeon for their reference and a copy of these notes can be sent to you if required.
  • My pet is nervous/aggressive, can he/she still have physiotherapy treatment?"
All pets are eligible for physiotherapy. However, given the hands-on nature of this therapy, some temperaments are better suited than others. Sadie will always try to work slowly and calmly with every animal so that they can adapt to her presence and intentions at their own pace. It can take some animals a few sessions before they begin to trust a new person. Sadly, some animals may never grow to relax and allow physiotherapy to be implemented and safety must be prioriotised in all circumstances. Sadie will not proceed with treatment if there is any risk to the patient, owner or therapist.
  • How do I pay for physiotherapy sessions?
Payment is required at the time of treatment and can be made via card, cash or bank transfer.
